Today marks an important milestone in my collegiate career. Are you wondering what happened? I began my first ever internship.
What does this have to do with washing windows? Well, it all started when Jessy, another CCM team member and I decided to clean the many windows in the office of all the dirt and grime. They were pretty yucky. By the end of the process most everyone in the office was part of the window washing effort. What did I get out of this?
I relearned the importance of team work in an office space, but I gained the knowledge that even if the work being done has nothing to do with the actual business itself, the aspect of team work is still important. As we worked on the windows it was important that we did not drop the windows, obviously, but to do that, communicating with each other was important. Without the communication between everyone in the process a window could have been broken or someone could have been hurt.
Even though the window washing was only a little part of the day I found it to be the most important part of the day, because by doing this I was able to see the back and forth between the group of people I will be working with throughout the rest of the summer. The beginning and the end of the day was your run of the mill first day. Everything I needed to be successful in this internship was set up for me. I was introduced as the intern to the public and was given an outline of what I will be doing this summer, but my favorite part of the day was receiving forty-five pouches of Cheez-It and a survival kit. Could one ask for any better of a welcome to the business than that? I can’t.
There you have it. My first day as an intern. I have a feeling that this is going to be a fun summer.
My question for everyone: Have you ever been an intern? I’d love to hear about your first day and where you interned. And if you want to throw any tips my way I am all ears.
