Making a website is like baking your favorite cake recipe. It is full of flavor and pleasing to the eye. For those who don’t know me, one of my favorite past times is baking. You can learn more about me here on our meet our team page. I wanted to combine two of my favorite things, baking and website development to show how you can make a wonderful website that is truly scrumptious.
What you will need for this recipe:
Start with a Good Base
Just like a cake, every website needs a good base. This will be the foundation of what you want your website to become whether it is for a business or a personal blog. Ask yourself, why am I making this website and who is it for?
Next Comes the Flavor
Once you have your base, you will need to add the flavoring to your site. This is the content that everyone will be reading. You want to make it full of flavor so they will want more. I mean who doesn’t like a second piece of cake, right? The best way to have people returning to your site is by providing new and engaging content. Writing a blog is the best way to provide keep your intended audience coming back for more.
Let’s Add Some Filling
The next step is to add your filling. The filling adds structure to your website. You do not need to have all your pages in your website navigation menu. You can have links that go to different pages on your site on other interior pages. Take a look at our Who We Are page for an example.
Icing, the Yummy Part
Here comes the fun part, adding the icing. Delish! The icing is the color that catches the eye of your visitors. Choose colors that are appealing and also compliment your branding style guide created by your professional marketing team. Remember that sometimes less is more. Some people think that if you add to much icing, it over powers the flavor of the cake. Your website should taste just right!
Finally, the Decoration
Last, but not least is your decoration. Graphics and videos. The better they look the more professional your site will look. If you do not have the budget to hire a professional photgrapher or you just don’t have the budget to buy killer stock photos, then you will want to explore the multitude of free stock photo sites available on the internet. Pixabay, Unsplash, and Visual Hunt are three really good sites to get free stock photos for commercial use. If something is free for commercial use, then you can use it no cost. Always check the license of the photo before you use publish it to your website, just to make sure.
If you follow this recipe then you will have a fantastic website that will be sure to keep them coming back again and again. Just remember: be creative with it and make it your own. What is your favorite looking website? I’d love to see your links of some websites that you think have all of the ingredients for a great website.
