Everyone knows that sometimes an office job can get a little boring and it can become hard to focus on what you are working on. Here are the 5 ways that I use to stay creative in an office.
1. 5 Minute Journal
I think the most effective way to be creative in an office is to have a positive attitude. 5 Minute Journal is an app for IOS (sorry Android users) that sends you a notification each morning at 8:00 am to ask you to write in your morning entry. In the morning you write what you are grateful for, what you will do to make today great, and daily affirmations. At the end of the day it will send you a notification at 9:00 pm to write about how your day went. Such as, amazing things that happened and how you could have made it better. This app helps you wake up and go to bed with a good attitude.
2. Listen To A Book
I love to read, but right now I do not have much spare time to curl up with a good book. I started using Audible when I drive and while I work. I get to do my work while I am reading. Killing two birds with one stone. What is so great about Audible is that they have an app for your computer and you can pause your story if someone or something needs your attention. In addition, if you become so focused on your work and forgot what just happened you can rewind 30 seconds so you can get caught up on what you missed.
3. Office Toys
You are never too old to play with toys. My 3rd tip to stay creative in an office is to play. On my desk I have a Han Solo Pop doll. It always puts me in a good mood when I look over and see him there. I also have a Nerf Gun in my desk drawer. You never know when you might need to get one of your co-workers attention (*clear-throat* Ben Cross). There is no problem with taking a step back from your work and get your mind off of it for 5 mins to play. Then when you go back to work you will have a fresh start. My favorite place to get office toys is ThinkGeek.
4. Keep A Sketch Book
Draw. Doodle. Write. This sketch book is yours, no one has to see it. I personally love to draw. This is great for me, because it helps me see different ways at looking at a problem. Writing also provides wonderful creative outlook. Look up different writing prompts to create fantastic stories. If you like to write and draw, this is the sketch book for you. Even if you don’t like writing or drawing, use a sketch book to jot down notes from your workday. I always prefer to write down what I need to do for the day rather than typing it out.
5. Listen To Movie Scores
I really enjoy movie scores when I work because sometimes listening to the words in songs or audio books will distract me. Movie scores are soothing and calming. On the other hand, when an action scene’s score starts to play it makes your work feel more epic. Here is a great playlist from Spotify. Try creating your own from your favorite films or video games. Video games have some of my favorite scores. I love anything from The Legend of Zelda, Uncharted, Pokemon, and Banjo Kazooie. The London Philharmonic Orchestra turned classic video games scores into classical music. Here are their two albums, The Greatest Video Game Music, The Greatest Video Game Music 2. Go take a listen. You will not regret it.
